Maura’s Taking Big Steps In New Trailer For ‘Transparent’ Season 3

The Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning series Transparent is coming back for season three. We’ve been waiting almost a year to find out what happens as Maura becomes more comfortable within her transition.

The new trailer shows some key points in the upcoming season and, most notably, an oh-so-perfect quote from Shelly: “When one person in a family transitions, everyone transitions.” The quote perfectly sums up the entire premise of the series, which started with Maura coming out as trans in the beginning of season one.

According to Our Lady J, one of the series’ writers, the theme of season three is “to come out of your shell.”

“Most people think of someone who has transitioned is as going from male to female, not as being assigned the wrong gender at birth,” she said.

The third season will give us additional insight to Maura’s childhood in a flashback to 1958 when she was 12 years old and just about to hit puberty.

In addition to flashbacks, the new season looks like it will contain more than a few milestones. Maura is asking to finally be called “Mom” instead of “Moppa” (a mom-poppa hybrid). It also looks like Maura is considering gender reassignment surgery, as a doctor shows a before and after photo of some sort of face lift and chin reduction. The family all take a cruise to Mexico, which is sure to have some sort of drama. It also looks like Shelly has found a new career as a public speaker giving talks about her family and developing a social media presence.

Season 3 of Transparent airs on Amazon on September 23.
