NY TV writer asks, where’s the Murrow tribute?

TV writer David Bianculli has lamented the fact that CBS has no plans to
air a 50th anniversary special to commemorate Edward R. Murrow‘s
trailblazing See It Now series, which first aired on Nov.
18, 1951. Unafraid to take controversial positions on political issues
— the program is generally credited with precipitating the downfall of
Senator Joseph McCarthy — See It Now inspired a host of
subsequent magazine programs, none of which became so influential. But
Don Hewitt, producer of 60 Minutes and the original director of
See It Now told Bianculli that the public probably has little
awareness of the program today. “The fact that it’s the 50th anniversary
— I got a feeling nine out of 10 people are gonna say, ‘See It
What?'” Hewitt remarked.
