Robert ‘Joe’ Halderman has pleaded guilty to extortion charges related to last year’s scandal involving David Letterman and a female member of his staff.
The onetime 48 Hours producer has been sentenced to six months in jail, along with four and a half years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
Halderman told the judge in the case, “I feel great remorse for what I’ve done. I apologize to Mr. Letterman and his family.”

Last fall, Letterman was forced to admit on his Late Show that he’d had an affair with Stephanie Birkitt, a staffmember on the show, after Halderman’s blackmail attempt.
