One TV judge is enough for the family. “The People’s Court” Judge Jerry Sheindlin, husband to “Judge Judy” Sheindlin announced that he is stepping down from his bench, Daily Variety reports. He will be replaced in March by 39-year-old Judge Marilyn Milian.
“These past two seasons have been a wonderful fantasy, and I truly enjoyed the adventure,” Sheindlin said. “Part of the adventure was trying to nip at the heels of my wife. Unfortunately, I could never catch up with her. So instead of trying to follow in her footsteps, I’ve decided to be the first to retire and let her follow me for a change.”
“Judge Judy” is currently the top-rated TV court show on the air. The show has battled many rivals, and its popularity was what brought back “The People’s Court” to TV in 1997.
FIGHT FOR ‘LITTLE NICKY’: It was a box office flop, but believe it or not, the networks were fighting over which would get the airing rights to the Adam Sandler starrer “Little Nicky.”
In the end, Fox won the bidding war over ABC and NBC for two broadcast runs, The Associated Press reports.
Turner Broadcasting’s TBS/TNT won the bidding for cable TV over USA and F/X.
Since it’s theatrical release Nov. 10, “Little Nicky” has grossed only $38.5 million, paltry by Sandler standards.
