TV STUFF: Scholarship Named After Rather

Imagine putting this on a resume under scholarships and awards.

CBS has established a $50,000 endowed journalism scholarship in the name of veteran CBS anchor Dan Rather at his alma mater, Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, The Associated Press reports.

The scholarship will provide full tuition for a student majoring in journalism or broadcast journalism. Rather has requested that preference be given to students who work on the college newspaper, which he edited before graduating in 1953.

SURRENDER YOUR BADGE: Kim Delaney will move over to a new legal drama by TV producer Steven Bochco on ABC after she finishes up this season of “NYPD Blue,” Daily Variety reports. Delaney, who won an Emmy for her portrayal of Detective Diane Russell, will miss two episodes as she films the as-yet-untitled project before returning to “NYPD Blue” to finish out the year.

A DRAMA ABOUT SINGLE MOTHERHOOD: Mary Stuart Masterson (“Some Kind of Wonderful,” “St. Elmo’s Fire“) will star in “Raising Kate,” a CBS drama about a struggling single mother, according to Variety. The network has approved six episodes, and this will be Masterson‘s first regular role on a TV series.
