If you haven’t yet experienced the genius that is FX’s Archer, your time is coming. The series returns to the cable network this January, and luckily I’ve got the ammunition of these promo clips to encourage your viewership. The beauty of this series about the hapless playboy and supposed spy, Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) and his careless mission to drive his coworkers batty, is in the subtle duality of the jokes. On the surface, they’re raunchy and chuckle-inducing, but most of them make you think for a second – often due to some rare, obscure reference (Warming Glow has a great breakdown of a few good ones) – which of course allows you to laugh uncontrollably while feeling superior for getting it.
Archer premieres Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
