“I have always been a huge fan of Bob Fosse’s and Gwen Verdon’s work. Ann Reinking, too,” Pamela Anderson said in a statement shared with the media. “Playing Roxie Hart is a dream fulfilled. Performing Fosse, you don’t have time to get in your head. You can’t dance, sing and think at the same time. There is a freedom, a unique joy in knowing it’s all about the work. Playing Roxie Hart is a sweet escape for me.”

Pamela Anderson, known for Baywatch and Home Improvement as well as her activism with PETA, feels like the perfect fit for Roxie Hart, a young girl who dreams of a career in vaudeville but ends up working as a chorus girl at a nightclub. She ends up marrying Amos Hart, an auto mechanic who becomes somewhat of a father figure to her. Years later, she begins an affair with Fred Casely, a furniture salesman. When Fred tries to call off the affair, Roxie shoots and kills him.

The original Broadway production of Chicago first opened in 1975. In 1996, it was revived on Broadway, winning multiple Tony Awards, and is the second longest-running show on Broadway behind The Phantom of the Opera. The 2002 film adaptation starring Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
