In what the Associated Press has described as further evidence that “the
lines between advertising and entertainment on television are blurring,”
ABC has signed a $25 million deal with a West Point alumni group to
promote the military academy via TV specials and commercials.
Among
other things, the deal calls for ABC to run a primetime special next
June titled Young America Celebrates West Point and to air an ad
campaign aimed at aiding West Point’s recruiting effort via “West Point
Minute” spots on Good Morning America and Nightline.
