AMC may try to buy General Cinema

AMC Entertainment, one of the only major film exhibitors that has not considered bankruptcy, has made a surprise bid for General Cinema, which has. The bid of $62.5 million tops one by Onex Corp. and Oaktree Capital Management of $42.5 million made during bankruptcy proceedings in Delaware. Onex/Oaktree are also attempting to take over Loews Cineplex. In January, AMC said it is closing down 80 of its 186 theaters.
