Brokaw: NBC should have shown leapers

Speaking Monday in a conference call to students attending Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Tom Brokaw said that he opposes journalists appearing on camera with flags or red-white-and-blue ribbons in their lapels because they appear to be “a sign of solidarity toward whatever the government is doing, and that is not our role.”

He also indicated that it may have been a mistake for the networks to have censored scenes showing people jumping from the World Trade Center. Saying that audiences could have been warned about the graphic nature of the footage, Brokaw remarked: “I do think that the audience deserved to know, if they were watching NBC, just how horrific this was that it would force people to leap out of the upper stories of the World Trade Center.”
