Diller to unite travel Web site with new cable channel

Apparently intent on broadening his connections to electronic commerce, USA Networks chief Barry Diller has agreed to buy a 75-percent stake in the Internet travel agency Expedia for $1.5 billion. News reports said that Diller plans to link the Web site to a new cable outlet, USA Travel Channel, in the way his Home Shopping Network is currently linked to HSN.com. Diller said Monday that he plans to spend $75 million over the next five years to promote Expedia.
