It looks like the candle is finally being blown out! Musical legend Elton John,53, surprised a sellout audience at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, October 20th, by announcing he’ll retire by the end of 2001. “One more album and I’m done,” John told the crowd. “We are going to have a lot of fun between now and then.”
He made the announcement in mid-concert, standing up from his piano and speaking very nonchalantly. John‘s band didn’t seem shocked by the announcement.
The Grammy-winning rocker has sold more than 60 million albums in the United States. John, once known for his flamboyant stage presence, was one of the great spenders – until two years ago, when financial woes forced him to buckle down.
