Public scorns media coverage of war on terrorism

Although the overwhelming majority of Americans approve of the way the
administration is handling the war on terrorism, only 43 percent approve
of the way the news media is, according to the latest Gallup poll.

In an
analysis accompanying the results, the Gallup company said, “One reason
for the lower rating of the news media may be that their role in a
democratic system of government makes them the bearers of bad news, and
also often puts them at odds with government officials — who, at this
time, are perceived by the public in very positive terms.”
