Britain’s Channel 4 said Thursday that it plans to cancel telecasts of the World Wrestling Federation when its contract with the WWF expires in December. The commercial channel expressed concerns about the “increasingly extreme nature” of the program and said that it had become “increasingly difficult to edit.” The cancellation will occur even though the U.K.’s official censors, the Broadcasting Standards commission and the Independent Television Commission each inidicated that it had received few complaints about the telecasts. Friday’s Guardian newspaper said that a joint study by the two watchdogs indicates that the regular audience understands that the fights are fabricated.
