The honor comes as Dean’s music gains momentum well beyond the UK. Released in September 2025, The Art of Loving has now reached the top of the Official UK Albums Chart for a fifth non-consecutive week, cementing her place as one of Britain’s most compelling contemporary voices. The album features standout tracks including Nice to Each Other, Lady Lady, and Man I Need, all of which have helped introduce her soulful, genre-blending sound to a wider international audience—particularly in the United States.

Born Olivia Lauryn Dean in London in 1999, the singer’s musical roots run deep. Raised in Walthamstow by an English father and a Jamaican-Guyanese mother, Dean was named after Lauryn Hill, an influence that would later shape her artistic identity. As a teenager, she earned a place at the prestigious BRIT School, initially studying theatre before pivoting to songwriting.

Olivia Dean began writing music in her mid-teens, teaching herself guitar and piano. A graduation performance proved pivotal, leading to management representation and an audition with Rudimental, where she later worked as a backing vocalist. Her debut album, Messy (2023), earned widespread critical praise and a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination.

Beyond music, Olivia Dean has also drawn public curiosity for her personal life, though she has largely kept the focus on her work. With Billboard’s recognition and growing chart dominance, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for an artist clearly just getting started.
