Grab Your Bar Stools Everyone, Syfy Has Announced ‘Sharknado’ Sequel

Grab your bar stools, everyone. Sharknado 2  is coming.

In the wake of the huge Twitter phenomenon caused by Sharknado, Syfy has announced that a follow-up is in this works, and this time the insane storm of marine animals will hit New York City. (I’m imagining sharks in the subway, obviously, and maybe some getting impaled on Lady Liberty. No one invades her city without her say so.)

Sharknado 2 is just a working title, and Syfy has also announced that there will be a Twitter contest to name the sequel. Fans can tweet their suggestions to @SyfyMovies using the hashtag #Sharknado. The network will choose the best submission as the sequel’s subtitle. There were already a few good ones floating around on Twitter during Sharknado‘s broadcast (my favorites are Sharknado 2: The Sharkoning and 2 Shark 2 Nado), so it should be interesting and hilarious to see what fans come up with.

Syfy’s Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale said in a statement: “Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2  will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”

Sharknado 2  is set to air in 2014, but fans can relive the glory of Sharknado (or, if they made the mistake of missing the premiere, watch it for the first time) on SyFy this Thursday at 7 pm.
