The Big 3 television networks are planning to join in a lawsuit against Replay TV, producers of the digital “personal video recorder,” because of its highly touted ability to skip TV commercials, Broadcasting and Cable reported on its website Tuesday.
In theory, a TV viewer could begin watching all his primetime television programs on a PVR a half-hour or so later than he would normally do so, and, by skipping through all the commercials, still finish his TV viewing at 11:00 p.m. The TV networks are also reportedly concerned about a new Replay TV feature that would enable viewers to transmit recorded TV programming over the Internet.
