Insidious: The Red Door Returns Where It All Began

Insidious: The Red Door is the installment in the Insidious franchise. The first film debuted in 2010,  with the first two installments focusing on the Lambert family. One day, their son Dalton Lambert, played by Ty Simpkins,  mysteriously enters a comatose state. Things go from bad to worse as the waking family members are continuously haunted by demons from a forbidden realm known as the Further.  Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert and Rose Byrne as Renai Lambert learn that the hauntings are connected to their son and fight to protect him from being trapped by the spirits in the Further.

The third film is a prequel to the events of the first two, and Insidious: the Last Key was a spin off featuring the medium from the series, Elise Rainier, played by Lin Shaye, confronting her own demons from the Further.

Now, The Red Door returns to where it all began. Dalton is all grown up and headed to college. However, the events of the past still have a tight grip on the Lamberts. The original cast returns for the final chapter of the Lambert Family saga. Josh and Dalton must go deeper into The Further, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new horrors lurking behind the red door.

New Things Behind the Scenes

One potential downside to the film is that it’s the fifth installment in a long-running franchise.  It’s always a challenge to keep a series fresh and engaging. However, the production team of  Insidious: The Red Door is already trying something new with the franchise on screen and behind the scenes.

Fans are in good hands with the story led by series creator Leigh Whannell. Patrick Wilson not only reprises his role of Josh Lambert, but also has his directorial debut. Not the mention, the screenplay comes from Scott Teems who wrote the screenplay for Halloween Kills and That Evening Sun.

The Red Door Opens This July

Of course, the success of a horror movie often hinges on its ability to create a sense of atmosphere and tension. For a successful movie, the talent behind the scenes must translate on the screen as well. And it looks like Insidious: The Red Door  will deliver on both fronts. The trailer is full of visual and aural elements that create the uncanny and unsettling atmosphere. The Further’s unrelenting presence represents a constant threat to the Lambert’s mental and physical safety. No matter where they go, their past haunts them. It threatens them and those around them.
