Bruno Mars, Christina Applegate Named As Upcoming ‘SNL’ Hosts

Good news Bruno Mars and Christina Applegate: Hosting Saturday Night Live can lead to some other pretty sweet gigs! While there’s no telling where being at the helm of an SNL episode will lead the “Just The Way You Are” singer and the Up All Night actress, both stars will make their way to the Studio 8H stage in the coming weeks.

Applegate, who has hosted SNL in the past (and just so happened to be part of one of the all-time best “breaking” moments — and Chris Farley moments, for that matter — in the history of the show) has some close SNL ties (here’s to hoping her Up All Night costar Maya Rudolph drops in for some more Oprah or Maya Angelou shenanigans or her Anchorman costar Will Ferrell takes us all to Pleasure Town before the sequel hits). She’ll take the reins again October 13 with first-time musical guest Passion Pit. While Applegate, as mentioned, is no stranger to SNL (or being an underrated comedy gem), the 40-year-old will be the first female host of Season 38.

Speaking of SNL first timers, Mars, the 26-year-old Grammy-winning crooner and all-around hat and sunglasses enthusiast will follow in the footsteps of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Mick Jagger as double duty host and musical performer on October 20. The modern day Rat Pack-er — who was already a musical guest on the show back in a 2010 episode when Jane Lynch hosted — is following up his breakout album Doo-Wops & Hooligans with his latest Unorthodox Jukebox which, as the youths might say, drops on Dec. 11. Fine, but he still better sing “Grenade” again.
