The first season of Squid Game was a massive hit when it premiered in September 2021, and anticipation for Season 2 has only grown since then. However, with the new season not set to debut on Netflix until December 26, many viewers are puzzled on social media, questioning how the Korean psychological thriller could be nominated for a Golden Globe before its official release.
How was Squid Game Season 2 Nominated for a Golden Globe?
To qualify for the 2025 Golden Globes, a show must premiere in the 2024 calendar year and submit its episodes to the voting body by November 4. Typically, few TV series debut in late December. However, Squid Game has a large, established fan base, and Netflix frequently releases highly anticipated seasons during the holiday season.
Squid Game Season 2 will continue its gripping tale of financially desperate Koreans who are lured into playing deadly children’s games with the hope of winning a fortune. This past summer, an official synopsis was finally unveiled, revealing a thrilling continuation of the story.
“Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
In a letter to fans, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk also confirmed that a third and final season is set to arrive in 2025. We can’t wait!
