A few weeks ago the ladies of Glee revealed their favorite guilty pleasures with a hip-shaking, girl power-inspiring homage to the one and only Spice Girls. Their McKinley High choir room performance of “Wannabe” spiced up our lives with feelings of ’90s nostalgia for girls all around the world — and for one Spice Girl in particular.
Hollywood.com caught up with one of the original fab five — the lovely and talented Melanie Brown — at Monday;s NBC Summer Press Day and found out how she felt about Glee’s rendition.
The former pop star-turned–America’s Got Talent judge revealed that she originally heard about the gleeful tribute from another Spice Girl. “Emma [Bunton] told me about that,” Brown said with a smile. “She was actually on set with them so I heard about that a long while ago, and I was so happy and excited for it. It was great!”
We know the British beauty heard that the ladies were going to slam their bodies down and wind them all around, but did she actually end up watching the five minutes of zig-a-zig-ah goodness? “Of course I did!” Brown exclaimed. Not only did Mel witness “Guilty Pleasures,” she thinks the Glee girls gave a fantastic performance and made the original Spice Girls proud. “Yeah, they did a great job — it’s Glee so of course they did,” she said.
Jenna Ushkowitz — who portrayed Brown’s on-stage alter ego Scary Spice — previously told Hollywood.com that the episode was a dream come true. “I have been waiting for this forever,” Ushkowitz said. “This is what I grew up with: Spice Girls, ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, that’s it. That’s all I want!”
