AMC, how could you? Thursday, March 1, the network ran a bit of a Walking Dead spoiler on its website and we’re about to tell you what it is so turn back now if you want total shock and awe all season.
The network ran an ad for the forthcoming Season 2 Limited Edition Blu-ray set, and it seems whoever wrote the copy really wanted fans to pre-order because in addition to promising more guts, extended scenes and Comic Con coverage, they also promised “Shane’s last episode.” Now, it’s something many fans have been mulling over for months. It was widely buzzed about that one main actor had asked to be released from the series after Frank Darabont was ousted. Jon Bernthal (Shane) was the actor most of the internets assumed was headed out, and when his character started to go off the deep end, those questions didn’t get any quieter. Plus, Bernthal is also reportedly in talks with TNT for a lead role on Darabont’s upcoming series, L.A. Noir. Combining those swirling newsbits with the ominous last scene from Feb. 26’s episode, and this spoiler seems like more of a confirmation of our collective fears (hopes, inklings – depending on you angle).
AMC released a statement to EW stating they did not condone the spoiler and are “investigating” the origins and the ad has since been removed. However, EW happened to catch a screengrab of the premature news in case you’ve just got to see if for yourself.
