Downey legal teams clash

Robert Downey Jr.‘s old legal team is claiming that the trouble-plagued actor’s new legal team has no right to take credit for his tentative plea agreement, People reports. Downey will reportedly plead no contest to two drug-related charges and enter a rehabilitation program for up to one year in a deal made with prosecutors, his new lawyers announced Wednesday. But Downey‘s former attorney, Robert J. Waters, told People that the plea agreement has been wrongly credited to Downey’s new legal team since Waters has not been informed that he has been replaced by Downey. He also claims that, under California law, he must continue to act as Downey‘s attorney until he is told otherwise. Downey is expected to formally enter his plea at a July 16 court hearing.
