HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 20, 2001 – Rumors and controversy are nothing new for Jennifer Lopez. But the 30-year-old acting and singing sensation was finally given the opportunity to address her critics during her promotional tour in Hong Kong on Monday.
“I make the kind of music I make, and I sing the way I sing,” Lopez responded when confronted by reporters about her singing skills. “It’s not about the critics for me – it’s about the fans,” Lopez said. “There’s always people who say negative things and there’s always going to be people who say positive things.”
She also laughed off the allegation that her body is insured for $1 billion. “No, and I know that was a big rumor,” the sultry star replied. “I actually saved the newspaper to show my kids one day, but it’s not true. Sorry,” she said.
“Things tend to be exaggerated a lot,” Lopez said about recent media reports describing her as a diva. She went on to say that she reads little of what is written about her.
While Lopez was enthusiastic about discussing her new album “J.Lo” and new movie “The Wedding Planner,” she declined to comment about her recent break-up with recording mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs. He is currently standing trial in New York on charges of bribery and gun possession resulting from a December 1999 incident where three people were shot.
Lopez recently became the first woman to simultaneously have a #1 movie and a #1 album. She will take her worldwide promotional tour to Australia on Tuesday before returning to the U.S.
