Kathie Lee Stumps for Mrs. Regis

The clock is ticking, and Kathie Lee Gifford’s days are numbered. And, while she’s still got the eyes and ears of TV America, she’s sounding off about who should take her place after she departs “Live With Regis and Kathie Lee” on Friday.

And her choice for a successor is (drumroll, please): Joy Philbin.

In the new issue of Time magazine, Gifford says that Mrs. Regis “not only shares chemistry with Regis, but she has history with him. … It’s such a fine line between how much to kiss his rear end and how much to kick it. When I kick his rear end, people know I love him.”

Meanwhile, the tearful goodbyes began on the show today and will likely continue through the week. Actress Marilu Henner told Gifford she is “… so excited that everyone is finally going to see what great acting chops you have.”

After leaving the show, Gifford plans to do a Broadway show and also record a new music album. She told Time she wants to be more “fulfilled creatively,” and that she is “talking to networks about sitcoms and dramas. … I’m talking to movie producers.”
