A Senate ethics panel has put an end to a marketing ploy by the ABC game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire to have war veteran politicians as contestants on the show, a stunt designed to coincide with the May 25 release of Pearl Harbor. Stars from the Disney film, including Ben Affleck, also were in talks to appear as contestants, with the show airing the final weekend of the May sweeps. Proceeds from the show would have gone to the World War II Memorial fund. Senate rules prohibit congressional members from receiving monies exceeding $2,000, even if the money is going toward a charitable cause.
