“Pearl Harbor” screens at Pearl Harbor Tuesday

Meanwhile, at the Navy’s (i.e. taxpayers’) expense the carrier John C. Stennis was moved from San Diego to Honolulu to serve as what Tuesday’s New York Times called “the world’s largest and most expensive outdoor theater” for Tuesday’s premiere of Pearl Harbor. The newspaper said that workers have set up a grandstand on the flight deck for the 2,000 invited guests. A Navy spokesman said that the service expects to benefit from the publicity from news coverage of the premiere. “We’ve gotten plenty of opportunities to have our sailors interviewed by hometown TV,” Navy spokesman Cmdr. Bruce Cole told the Times. “It’s a great way to give people an idea of what we do.”
