Now that we tentatively know who’s going to be president of the United States, the next big question is: Where will CBS schedule “Survivor 2”?
The sequel to the network’s big hit over the summer will roll out in January, but the network has yet to announce the day and time slot fans of the hit show can find it on the tube, Daily Variety reports.
While CBS execs are still mulling over that decision, big wigs at rival networks speculate that it’ll be Sundays at 8 p.m., a slot currently taken by the fading “Touched by an Angel” starring Della Reese and Roma Downey. Such a move would bolster CBS’ viewership on that night as well as lead into its 9 p.m. movie.
“They really need to put a jolt into that night,” says one network executive. “It’s such a traditional franchise night for them.”
Others are speculating that “Survivor 2” might wind up on Thursdays at 8 p.m. or last season’s slot, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Thursday night would provide CBS the opportunity to launch new programming behind it, a move that would be very aggressive for CBS.
“That would be a very bold kind of move, a ballsy thing,” one rival executive said of a potential Thursday slot. “But I’m not sure they have the assets to maximize their Thursday (with ‘Survivor’ in the mix). … I think it could pose a threat to any time period.”
Stay tuned.
