Internet users participating in a Planet of the Apes scavenger hunt conceived by 20th Century Fox have been unable to turn up one item that was hidden by the studio in a park in Monrovia, Calif., last week, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The hunt requires players to use a Global Positioning Satellite device. Some game players, the newspaper reported, have complained that the wrong directions to the cache may have been posted on the movie’s Web site. This week the studio was forced to add a new clue, revealing that the cache is below a waterfall and on the east side of a creek. The item, said a studio spokesperson, “is still there. We know that.”
