Though the Writers Guild of America has admitted it “did not achieve all the goals [it] sought” with its agreement with the producers, it is standing fast on the premise that it is a good deal. “We believe that the contract offers substantial advances in the economic interests of both feature and television writers and establishes a firm basis for further gains in future contracts…. We do believe we won substantially all that we could in this round of negotiations,” according to a WGA statement. The disappointment centers on the WGA’s failure to get increases on network shows rerun on basic cable and for lack of jurisdiction expansion on writing for animated shows, Variety report.
