Fox Fined in ‘X-Files’ Death

Safety agency Cal/OSHA slapped 20th Century Fox Television fines of more than $41,000 as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on the set of “The X-Files” last year.

Jim Engh, a 38-year-old grip, was killed, and six others on the show were injured in August when scaffolding they were standing on while setting up an L.A. shoot came in contact with high-power lines.

In its ruling, Cal/OSHA determined that Fox committed three serious safety violations, including allowing employees to work near high-voltage lines without taking steps to guard them from danger and properly securing the scaffolding.

The agency also said that Fox failed to post written code of safety practices on the job site. Fox has 15 days to contest the ruling.
