“Potter” opens big in France

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has had a big debut in
France, registering sales of 475,000 on opening Day Wednesday, according
to Screen International. However, it fell short of the 503,000
admissions counted for the French comedy La Vrit Si Je Mens 2 earlier this year — a movie that went on to rack up more
7.83 million ticket sales this year.

Suggesting that the Harry
Potter

frenzy may have calmed, the original artwork for the second novel,
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, failed to attract a
buyer at an auction at Christie’s London Thursday. It had been expected
to fetch about $45,000. Two other original covers sold at their minimum
asking price. The cover artwork for the first book recently sold for
about $125,000.
