Mocked and derided by critics, NBC’s new reality show Fear Factor beat the competition on the three other network channels at 8:00 p.m. Monday night, chalking up an 8.0 rating and a 13 share. It was followed at 9:00 p.m. with even stronger ratings for The Weakest Link, which produced an 11.3/15, the best numbers of the night. The one-two punch gave NBC a Monday-night victory, as it posted an average 7.9/12, followed by ABC with a 7.8/12. CBS, which ordinarily dominates the night with its sitcom lineup, slipped to third place with a 7.6/12, as the comedy shows went into reruns. Fox was hardly in the running as it placed last among the Big 4 with a 3.9/6.
