British filmmakers are expressing concern that the local industry, which already is experiencing a significant slump, may be devastated if the actors union Equity makes good on its threat to go on strike on Dec. 1. “This could have a catastrophic effect on the British film industry,” BBC Films chief David Thompson told Screen Daily, the online publication of the industry trade paper Screen International. “We have managed to get a number of important projects off the ground that offer huge opportunities to British actors and now they are in difficulties.”
