Note to Hollywood: We need more flying saucer flicks, and there’s plenty of material out there.
“When an armed and threatening power lands in our capital we don’t greet it with tea and cookies!”
No, you haven’t been marooned in outer space by mad scientists and forced to watch sci-fi B-movies à la Mystery Theater 3000. It’s not Mars Attacks!–possibly more like Close Encounters? According to reports that surfaced yesterday, they may be out there. Or at least over Mexico, anyway.
In honor of this week’s DVD release of the ninth and final season of one of our favorite series, The X-Files, the August release of Alien vs. Predator and because we’re fans of all things B-movie-esque, we’re bringing you this week’s “news of the weird” story of flying saucers spotted over Mexico. Frankly, we’re hoping Hollywood will pick it up run with it. Because who doesn’t love a great UFO movie?
You see, a Mexican Air Force surveillance jet patrolling the Gulf of Mexico for drug trafficking (that’s right…patrolling for drugs, not taking them) captured what appeared to be flying saucers, which initially showed up as three objects on their radars. The video shows 11 blobs of light that appear to hover in a formation at an altitude of about 3,500 meters. (Watch it here.)
Journalist (perhaps he should look into screenwriting?) Jaime Maussan, a longtime believer in flying saucers, told a news conference Tuesday that footage of what appear to be unidentified flying objects picked up by an infrared camera is indeed the real McCoy.
(Let’s not leave out the fact that Mexico has a long history of UFO sightings, most of which are dismissed by scientists as space debris, missiles, weather balloons, natural atmospheric phenomena or hoaxes.)
“They were there, there is no doubt about it,” Maussan said after showing a 15-minute video he said was given to him by the country’s Defense Ministry. “They had mass, they had energy and they were moving about.”
According to Maussan, the flying saucers–which could not be seen by the naked eye–appeared to change direction and surround the plane that was chasing them.
On the video, which was shot by the Air Force March 5 over the eastern coastal state of Campeche, one of the pilots can be heard yelling: “We are not alone! This is so weird!”
Maj. Magdaleno Castanon added: “There was a moment when … the screens showed they were behind us, to the left and in front of us. It was at that point that I felt a bit tense.”
A Defense Department spokesman confirmed the tape with The Associated Press Tuesday.
“This is historic news,” Maussan said. “Hundreds of videos (of UFOs) exist, but none had the backing of the armed forces of any country…The armed forces don’t perpetuate frauds.”
We always knew the truth was out there…
