Amazon’s MGM Studios has gained creative control of the iconic James Bond franchise, the company revealed on Thursday, as it aims to strengthen its position in the streaming competition.
The agreement will create a “new joint venture to hold the intellectual property rights, with both parties remaining co-owners of the franchise,” the business partners stated in a press release. Once the transaction is completed, Amazon MGM Studios will “assume creative control of the James Bond franchise.”

As part of the agreement, Amazon MGM Studios will take creative control of the franchise, while Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will continue as co-owners of the iconic 60-year-old property. In 2022, Amazon purchased MGM, acquiring a massive library that includes over 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows.
What Does This Mean for the James Bond Franchise?
We’re cautiously curious about the potential for a new James Bond cinematic universe under Amazon’s umbrella. While the streaming service has certainly seen success with shows like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bond franchise might be a bit harder to expand. Its rich legacy and status come with high expectations, but if Amazon can bring fresh creativity while respecting what makes Bond so special, we could be in for an exciting new chapter in the 007 saga.
