Everything You Need to Know About the ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot

Hey Hollywooders! What’s Good in the ‘Wood? Get ready to metaphorically strut the streets of New York City once more because a Sex and the City reboot is coming to HBO!

The reboot has a new title, And Just Like That, and will follow the gal pal trio, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) as they navigate their 50s in the Big Apple.

HBO gave us a first-hand look in January with a quick little teaser on Instagram:

Here is everything we know about And Just Like That so far.

Sex and the City reboot: Who’s returning?

While Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will reprise their roles as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, Kim Cattrall will not be returning as the lovable and wild Samantha Jones.

HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys addressed Kim Cattrall’s absence with TVLine. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start,” Casey says. “So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

Although Kim Cattrall won’t appear in the new series, Deadline confirmed that Chris Noth would come back to the reboot as his iconic character Mr. Big. Additionally, Page Six reported that John Corbett is returning as Aidan Shaw.

More news flooded about cast members reprising their roles, including David Eigenberg as Steve, Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch, Mario Cantone as Anthony, and Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt.

Sex and the City reboot: New additions to the cast

The Sex and the City reboot is also bringing some new faces into the mix. Deadline reported that Grey’s Anatomy album Sara Ramírez will play Che Diaz, “a non-binary queer stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured.”

The HBO Instagram page shared three other new characters: Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley, and Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace. While we’re not sure exactly how they’ll factor into Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte’s lives, we’re excited to see them take on the reboot.

Sex and the City reboot: What’s the premise of the new show?

Fans went crazy on social media when reports said that the script of the reboot leaked. Although there are reports of this leaked script, Hollywood.com will not share any information that has not been confirmed.

According to Variety, And Just Like That will follow “Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

COVID-19 will also be a part of the show’s storyline. Sarah Jessica Parker tells Vanity Fair that it will “obviously be part of the storyline because that’s the city [these characters] live in. And how has that changed relationships once friends disappear?”

It seems like the reboot has already started production, as Sarah posted a picture to Instagram of the show’s first table read in June. It’ll be cool to see how the show incorporates COVID, the new social climate, and the years that have passed since Sex and the City wrapped in 2004.
