Fox Announces Schedule for 2011-2012

zooey deschanelNot a lot happening with Fox’s schedule for the next season of television, but what did you expect from the number one network? There are still a few changes, but whether or not they’re good changes depends on if you like dinosaurs, Zooey Deschanel, singing shows, and long lasting cop shows. Onto the changes!

Terra Nova – This futuristic show set in the past (modernism!) that also has dinosaurs will debut on Mondays at 8 leading into House (which moves back an hour). The show has had a few behind the scenes troubles, but the placement in a such a prominent start (and without a lead-in) shows a bit of confidence. Or that they want to kill it quickly.

Alcatraz – The newest LOST wannabe show has the one thing most LOST wannabe didn’t: J.J. Abrams. It’ll show up midseason, replacing Terra Nova but switching places with House. Why they keep shuffling the pill popping doctor around is beyond me, but these guys seem to know what they’re doing.

New Girl – The new Zooey Deschanel sitcom about how awesome it is to be Zoey Deschanel (basically) gets the comfy position of following Glee. If the show somehow manages to mess this up then it will literally be a pile of garbage.

X-Factor – Pulling a play from American Idol, Simon Cowell’s new show will have performances on Wednesdays at 8 followed by results shows on Thursdays at the same time. Of course Idol will return in the spring but considering X-Factor has always been a hit around the world and basically has the best parts of Idol, it’ll be a hit. The new sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter will follow the show on Wednesdays.

Allen Gregory – The new animated show from Jonah Hill gets the other safe time slot: Sundays between The Simpsons and Family Guy. Not a bad place to be although it does mean Bob’s Burgers is bumped to midseason.

America’s Most Wanted – The long running show (which is almost as old as me, but I beat it by a few months) has been effectively canceled. John Walsh, the host and executive producer, is shopping it around but it’ll only exist as quarterly specials. Sad to see such a long running show go down, especially one that actually aids in capturing bad guys whereas COPS (which shall continue) only reinforces negative stereotypes. Way to go Fox!

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you’ll definitely be watching something on Fox next year. Here’s the full schedule, new shows in CAPS:
