Seemingly everyone under the sun is slated or rumored to return to ER this season — even deceased characters! — except for Julianna Margulies.
Margulies, who played nurse Carol Hathaway for ER’s first six seasons, has officially declined an invitation to reprise her role one final time as the series nears its end, according to the Associated Press.
“I feel like I left Carol Hathaway in the best scenario possible. I can’t imagine making it any better than that,” she said on Saturday.
But Margulies is just about the only former cast member NBC hasn’t been able sign up for a return.
Just last week, Anthony Edwards’ character Dr. Mark Greene came back … from the dead, while fellow one-time ER mainstays Noah Wyle and Eriq La Salle have been confirmed as upcoming returnees.
Not surprisingly, one of the only other former ER stars NBC can’t quite pencil in yet just so happens to be the biggest alum of ‘em all: George Clooney.
