Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fans of Bachelor Nation. Honestly, it’s a bit disturbing to watch large groups of people compete for one person’s affection. (I’m just trying to get one guy to buy me an ice cream cone.) Furthermore, as a realist, I find it quite alarming when people say they’ve “fallen in love” despite having only been around one another for a few months at best. And, we won’t even get into Bachelor Nation’s blatant diversity problem. But, that neither here nor there. Yesterday, ABC put the entire internet in shambles when they announced for the upcoming season, The Bachelor is going to be Nick Viall.
How exciting is this?! Congrats, @viallnicholas28! #TheBachelor pic.twitter.com/Iyuryyfs6M

Bachelor Nation host Chris Harrison told PEOPLE about the decision saying, “He has just become that perennial, second place guy who wants to find love and is as sincere, if not more sincere, than anybody about finding it. It’s about giving him his chance to find love. Who deserves it more than him?”
So why is this so controversial?!
First and foremost we can’t understand why Viall is still a member of Bachelor Nation, to begin with. The man has been the runerup TWO times, missing out on getting engaged to The Bachelorette‘s Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe, and he’s also currently competing on Bachelor in Paradise. (I mean a guy has to make his coins the best way he can.) Needless to say, Viall isn’t the most popular choice among Bachelor fans, and many took to their twitter accounts to express disbelif that someone finallyhad picked Viall after all this time.
This fan gleefully expressed her disbelief.
Nick viall is the bachelor lmao lmao finally something to help me stop watching

Another compared him to tragic Juan Pablo.
Who decided to make Nick Viall the new Bachelor? This season is about to be worse than Juan Pablo’s season. WTF. #TheBachelor

This fan just refused to believe the news.
So Luke isn’t the next bachelor… #TheBachelor pic.twitter.com/MmhL9jXGTv

And Bachelor Nation’s Chad Johnson took to Twitter to make fun of the 35-year old Bachelor’s age.
He’s gonna be 36 while filming #TheBachelor. Over 10 years older than the girls… Does the wedding ring come with an AARP membership?

I’m so confused by all of this! Should I watch this upcoming season of The Bachelor or nah? Either way, it seems like I have just as good of a chance of finding “true love” if I continue to swipe right on Tinder.
