When he’s not busy flirting with Stefon, Seth Meyers is not only prepping for his new Late Night gig, he’s also launching the animated series The Awesomes. Oh yes, he’s a very busy man!
SNL’s previous head writer and “Weekend Update” frontman has co-created the new Hulu cartoonThe Awesomes with writer Mike Shoemaker (SNL and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon). The animated comedy is about a a slew of subpar superheroes that are hired to try to fill the void left behind by a superb superhero squad (watch the teaser below).
Although it will be super fun to watch the series, which reels in the competent vocals of Bill Hader, Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, Rachel Dratch, Ike Barinholtz, we can’t help but wonder how Meyers will be able to balance running this comedy series while simultaneously hosting Late Night. We acknowledge how his predecessor Jimmy Fallon did contemporaneously create the comedy series Guys With Kids while adhering to his demanding Late Night schedule. But then again, Meyers is not just the creator of The Awesomes, he also voices a character on the series, which is definitely more of a time commitment.
However, other cartoon creators seem to engage in multiple projects at the same time without skipping a beat. Just look at Seth MacFarlane! Not only did he create Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad!, the comedic also wrote and directed last summer’s blockbuster Ted. Oh, and he even made time to date Game of Thrones’ stunner Emilia Clarke.
Similarly, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have brought their talents to Broadway with the Tony Award-winning musical The Book of Mormon. So, perhaps working in the cartoon industry is more of a hands-off stint?
Although it might be a serious balancing act for Seth Meyers to successfully dabble in both the cartoon realm and the Late Night sphere, we do know that the funny-man definitely has a noggin’ loaded with enough punchy jokes to go around.
