Biography

With an acerbic wit and uncanny knack for insulting people, Jeffrey Ross rose quickly from being a stand-up comedian to being dubbed the "Roastmaster General" by Jimmy Kimmel and "The Meanest Man in Comedy" by New York magazine. Known for his hard-edged celebrity roasts on Comedy Central and MTV, Ross honored some of America's favorite stars - from Hugh Hefner to William Shatner - with his cutting, unabashed remarks. From writing for fellow comedians Billy Crystal and Chris Rock to starring in his own stand-up special for Comedy Central, Ross kept the dying brand of insult comedy alive. Showing off a more rhythmic side in 2008, Ross signed on as a contestant on ABC's seventh season of "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005- ), only to be the first one eliminated from the competition. Of course, he resumed his steady diet of celebrity roasts, lambasting the likes of David Hasselhoff, Joan Rivers, Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen, while maintaining his status as the "Meanest Man in Comedy."

"You have that home-team advantage," Ross said from the Friars Club in Los Angeles. "I did a lot of jokes that only Jewish audiences will get. There are not too many times in a normal routine do I get to do a reference to 'Shabbos goy.' That would not work as well at Faneuil Hall." - Ross quoted in The Jewish Advocate, May 6, 2004

New York Magazine crowned Ross "The Meanest Man in Comedy."
