Maura Tierney to Join Cast of ‘The Good Wife’

Since it’s summer and we can make this analogy, if television success was measured like baseball, Maura Tierney would most certainly be batting around close to a thousand. The actress, who already has Newsradio, Rescue Me, and her Emmy-nominated turn on ER to her track record, will soon add The Good Wife to that impressive lineup. In other words, don’t trade your Maura Tierney card.

According to Deadline, the 47-year-old actress is joining the cast of the CBS drama for a recurring role as a self-made millionaire who becomes a figure in Chicago Democratic politics. Not only does Tierney’s inclusion on the series bode well for the show, as she always makes for good TV, but it will also mark a mini-ER reunion of sorts. Nurse Abby Lockhart and Nurse Carol Hathaway will move from Chicago’s County General to Stern, Lockhart & Gardner. (Isn’t it high time Dr. Doug Ross paid a visit, too?)

The news marks a welcome return for Tierney to the small screen. While the actress recently appeared on an episode of The Office, she sadly had to drop out of the cast of NBC’s beloved drama Parenthood after her battle with breast cancer. (Gilmore Girls‘ star Lauren Graham replaced Tierney for the role of Sarah Braverman.) It’s great, for so many reasons, to have her back in the rotation.
