HOLLYWOOD, May 16, 2000 – “The X-Files” will be back for another season to seek that ever-so-illusive truth, it has been confirmed. Fox Network and “X-Files” guru Chris Carter has announced today that cult sci-fi series, which focuses on everything from earthly paranoia to otherworldly activities and everything in between, been renewed for a eighth season.

“There are still so many more stories to tell in ‘The X-Files,’ said Carter in a statement. “And I’m pleased that the show will be returning next season to give us that opportunity.”

But don’t celebrate too fast, X-philes. While lead thespian Gillian Anderson is apparently game and ready to return, the producer still has not been able to safeguard the return of the series’ other star, the embittered David Duchovny, who has been busy suing the Fox network over a syndication deal.

The Fox camp asserted that negotiations with the star are still on-going, but Duchovny or not, the show will go on for an additional season.

No word yet on Duchovny’s camp on the actor’s reactions to the renewal.

Fox will unveil the rest of its new fall lineup this Thursday.
