Talk about a journalistic no-no. Jane magazine — the one that printed that story recently in which Liz Hurley said ex-boyfriend Hugh Grant is “less than adequate in bed” — is eating crow, big time.
The mag has admitted that one of its writers fabricated Hurley‘s quotes, and has issued a formal apology to the actress.
The retraction comes after Hurley sent a letter to Jane, complaining that she never bad mouthed Grant‘s talent under the sheets.
“I have spoken about Hugh hundreds, if not thousands of times in the press over the years. I have never said anything mean about him and never would because I truly love him,” Hurley said in an extract from the letter, printed in Britain’s Daily Mail tabloid.
Jane originally stood by its article, saying Hurley participated in a sex test and that her answers were on tape.
But, according to an Associated Press news report, when the magazine’s editors reviewed a transcript of their writer’s interview with Hurley, they found that it “contains no derogatory statements by Ms. Hurley about Mr. Grant or her relationship with him.”
Hurley and Hugh called it quits in May after 13 years together. However, they are still living together and recently were photographed kissing while on vacation in the Mediterranean.
