Charges Filed Against Downey

Any way you slice it, actor Robert Downey Jr. will likely return to a jail cell after his Thanksgiving weekend bust in Palm Springs, Calif.

Palm Springs police filed felony drug charges against the Academy Award-nominated actor Friday, and a decision whether prosecutors will pursue each charge could come down as soon as this week.

In all, Downey faces a maximum of six years and eight months in prison for his latest run-in.

Acting on a 911 call, police arrested Downey on Nov. 25 at the posh Merv Griffin Resort for possession of 4.5 grams of cocaine and a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Currently a co-star on “Ally McBeal,” Downey, 35, returned to work last week after posting $15,000 bail to finish the last two episodes of his 10-episode commitment.

He’s scheduled to return to court in Indio on Dec. 27 to face the charges against him.
