French films are making a big comeback — in France. While U.S. films accounted for 62 percent of ticket sales in France last year, they now account for just 49 percent, according to Screen International, which cited the latest estimates by France’s Centre National de la Cinematographie.

Currently the top-four films at the French box office were locally produced, with the top U.S. performer, Planet of the Apes, coming in a distant fifth.
