Emmy Balloting Extended

HOLLYWOOD, August 14, 2000 – When you’re an official Emmy voter for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, you’ve got a lot of TV to watch. So, they’d better give you enough time to watch it. That’s the thinking behind the Academy’s move to extend the deadline for Emmy ballots five extra days, to Aug. 21.

According to Variety, it’s the first glitch in the new at-home Emmy balloting process that the Academy decided to try in response to criticism that the old balloting procedure, wherein a blue-ribbon panel chose the winners, was too conservative.
