England’s victory is BBC’s, too

Saturday night’s victory of England’s soccer team over Germany produced the biggest audience the BBC has drawn on a Saturday night in five years, according to figures released Monday. The telecast was watched by an astounding 14.6 million viewers, representing 63 percent of the entire TV audience. Reports noted that thousands more watched the game in pubs. Peter Salmon, director of BBC Sport, called the result “a massive vote of confidence.”
