In 2002, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences will recognize rap with four Grammy categories, up from the two that are currently considered. The two new categories-best sung collaboration and best master engineering-will be added to the presentation next year. Grammys are currently awarded in the rap field for best solo performance and best performance by a duo or group. According to the AP, the Academy is seeking to “acknowledge the significant technical and creative contributions” that rap-industry professionals are making.
